The central therapeutic goal is always the complete operative removal of the malignant tumor plus the adjacent lymph nodes. Following surgery of stages I disease, no regular aftercare is necessary. Following surgery of stages II disease participation in a structured aftercare program is necessary. In stage III disease and in cases of stage II disease displaying distinct risk factors (i.e. bowel obstruction or perforation and others) adjuvant chemotherapy for 6 month ist added in order to decrease relaps rates. Afterwards an aftercare program is started.
