The endosonography is an ultrasound examination and a standard procedure in the case of rectal cancer. It is performed not from the outside but the inside of the  intestine whereby the tip of the ultrasound device is advanced into the rectum via the anus. This examination aims to assess to what extent the tumour has already infiltrated the tissue.
