Chemotherapy which is administered after an operation is called adjuvant chemotherapy. Adjuvant therapy aims to fight not yet verifiable micro metastases thereby improving the long term chances of cure.
Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is a type of chemotherapy which aims to shrink (i.e. melt down) a tumour in order to make it more or at all suitable to be operated on.
