Lung cancer originates in the lung but malignant cells can also spread to other organs. In this way, cells migrate from the lung via the circulating blood or lymphatic pathways to other organs. Such migration of cancerous cells into other organs is called haematogenous or lymphogenous metastasis. In lung cancer, metastases occur mainly in the other lung, the lymph nodes in the chest, the liver, the adrenal glands, the brain and in bones.
