Side Effects of Chemotherapy

Medicines (substances) used in chemotherapy have a stronger effect on cancer cells than on healthy cells. The side effects of such a chemotherapy depend on the type of the administered drug as well as the dosage.

Side effects are also referred to as ‘unwanted drug effects’ because they do not serve the intended treatment purpose but are, unfortunately, triggered by the required medication.

Common side effects of chemotherapy are nausea and vomiting which nowadays, however, with the use of medication can be avoided or considerably reduced at an early stage. In addition, inflammation of the oral mucosa, tiredness, hair loss and changes in blood profile are also possible. Your doctor will discuss with you chemotherapy related side effects and possible counter measures or offers of aid. Self-help groups also provide many useful tips on the topic of side effects.
