Will only Medical Doctors treat me?

It is only natural and in no way a sign of weakness or failure, to rely on special support  and help in particularly stressful situations.  All members of our multidisciplinary team are available to you without reservation. Doctors, nurses, pilots, social workers and  pastoral care workers always have an open ear for you and will discuss questions and topics you might think of as ‘non medical’. Themes which are important to you are usually also important to your treatment.

Some people experience, when they are seriously ill, a phase of deep  sense of defeat. People may also feel scared and sad. This is often a normal, important and healthy reaction so please do not hesitate to speak to us if you experience these feelings. In  some patients strong feelings of this kind  may also turn into depression.  Should this occur, medical doctors and psychologists can help. We work closely together with specially trained and experienced psychologists at Haus Lebenswert. Their specific expertise lies in the psycho-oncological care of cancer patients.

Our pastoral care staff is always available to speak with you and your relatives in those critical phases of life, and medical and nursing staff are also available for  confidential conversations covering all your concerns. Should the subject of death and dying be important to you, we can offer you the opportunity to talk about this with our pastoral care workers or medical staff and psychologists specially trained in coping with grief. In these discussions, you can address your sorrow and grief openly and without the fear of burdening relatives and friends. In these conversations, we also help you to find a way for you to share emotional hardships (e.g. grief) together with relatives and friends. The grieving process is an important aspect of parting and saying good bye for all concerned:  the patient whose life nears its end and the relatives who have to face the loss of a loved one. In order to cope with parting with a loved person, it is also important to express grief and not to hide one’s own true emotions.
