Medical interventions aimed at improving and prolonging quality of life are increasingly important as the disease progresses. Specific interventions include pain control management and control of symptoms generated by illness, such as shortness of breath, loss of appetite, nausea and pain, as well as lethargy, anxiety and fear. The palliative medicine care team of the Center for Palliative Medicine on the Köln campus is specialised in the treatment of symptom control. To accommodate and treat cancer patients, the Department of Palliative Medicine has designated beds and its own outpatient clinic. In addition, a clinical specialist service is maintained for the University Hospital, together with a home visit service provided by CIO physicians, nurses and social workers. For more information on the available services offered by the University Hospital and the Polyclinic for Palliative Medicine, please refer to the following flyers:
Palliative medicine care services at the Bonn campus are currently under development. Please direct any queries to our Patient Navigator, Mr. Friedel.
